Here are the steps:.Create a new file and set the attributes to be 1 pixel high and Xpixels wide where X is the number of bands you need.Set the zoom to as large as possible.Using the Pencil tool, color each pixel as you would like the bandsto appear.Resize the image by 500% horizontal and vertical; do this 2-3 timesto get an image big enough so it doesn't have to stretch in thechart. (Note: leaving it small produces blending of the colored barswhich can be desirable.).Save the file.If your charts will have a variable number of points plotted, prepare several background images and then select the appropriate one in your code.

Note: The following procedures apply to Office 2013 and newer versions. Add or remove error bars.Click anywhere in the chart.Click the Chart Elements buttonnext to the chart, and then check the Error Bars box. (Clear the box to remove error bars.).To change the error amount shown, click the arrow next to Error Bars, and then pick an option.Pick a predefined error bar option like Standard Error, Percentage or Standard Deviation.Pick More Options to set your own error bar amounts, and then under Vertical Error Bar or Horizontal Error Bar, choose the options you want. This is also where you can change the direction, end style of the error bars, or create custom error bars. Note: The direction of the error bars depends on the type of chart you’re using. Scatter charts can show both horizontal and vertical error bars. You can remove either of these error bars by selecting them, and then pressing Delete.
Along with other benefits of tables such as automatic filtering, color banding is applied to rows by default. All you need to do is convert a range of data to table. Select the range of cells where you want to alternate color rows. Navigate to the Insert tab on the Excel ribbon and click Table, or press Ctrl+T.
